Women In STEM, Nepal Initiative

Initiative to Reduce Gender Disparity in the STEM field in Nepal

In 2022, Dr. Babita Paudel was honored with the Humboldt Alumni Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, in recognition of her initiative titled "Capacity Building of Female Academics and Researchers in STEM through Networking to Reduce the Gender Gap in Nepal."

Gender disparity in STEM remains a significant challenge in Nepal, where women make up only 7.8% of the research community (UNESCO). This underrepresentation is driven by interconnected factors such as persistent gender stereotypes, societal expectations, lack of inclusive policies, limited female role models, insufficient mentorship programs, and few opportunities for networking and professional development.

Dr. Paudel’s initiative seeks to empower, inspire, and support girls and women in STEM through strategic interventions focused on networking, mentoring, skill development, visibility of role models, and policy advocacy, fostering a more inclusive and equitable STEM ecosystem in Nepal.
